In the main exhibition hall, you can familiarize yourself with the species found in the area. The exhibition focuses on the nature of Southwest Häme, but there are also species from all over Finland. All in all, the museum has a wide variety of stuffed animals on display, and we receive frequent praise, especially for our bird collection.

The museum collection was initiated for educational purposes at a time when books rarely had color photos and videos or smartphones were yet unheard of. With the absence of widespread photography, taxidermy was an important way to document and display animals. This is worth keeping in mind and discussing with your kids at the museum—taxidermy might come as a surprise to some. How often do you get to see a wolf up close!

The nature of Southwest Häme was still virtually undocumented in the 1950s, and our museum played an essential part in identifying the species of the area.
